No Reservations: All sessions are first come, first participating.
Adding a session to your calendar is a great way to track what you are interested in but does NOT guarantee your spot. We recommend having a few options during each slot as back-up plans. Thanks in advance for moving to another session if you find a room is full. For help, see Sched’s Attendee Guide.

As you plan, note room capacities (listed with room #, e.g. B204 / 72 = building B, room 204, seats 72) and arrive early to help ensure a seat. Thank you for your gracious cooperation and understanding, and for keeping us all safe by observing venue fire codes.

Woody Guthrie: Jewish By Association

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Woody Guthrie is known as a folk singer, author, and a voice for the downtrodden, but few realize the depths of his association with the Jewish community. In particular, Guthrie’s marriage to the daughter of famed Yiddish poet Aliza Greenblatt and his working relationship with Folkways Records producer Moses Asch (son of the great Yiddish author Sholem Asch) influenced Woody to create a body of work related to the Jewish experience. He wrote songs about Hanukkah and the Shoah, and made sure his son, singer Arlo Guthrie, became a bar mitzvah. Join Ilan Speizer as he explores Guthrie’s connection to Jewish culture and sings a few famous and not-so-famous Woody Guthrie songs!
